9th Study Circle for Baacha Khan Fellows

9th Study Circle for Baacha Khan Fellows was held at the head office of the BKTEF Peshawar on May 6 2017. Around 33 Fellows participated in the study circle from Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Tank, Hangu, Swat and Dir. Open discussion took place on two articles, i.e, 'Looking for the Enlightenment Post-Mashal' and 'Afghanistan as Heart of Asia' by Dr.Kadim Hussain.

All participants discussed various aspects of the articles in the light of recent political and strategic scenarios. The participants strongly condemned the barbaric lynching of Mashal Khan and reiterated their resolve to stand up to the narrative, apparatus and tools of violence perpetrated by state and non-state actors in the Pashtun land. They argued that the history and construct of extremist violence in the Pashtun land exhibited a pattern of planned coercion and hegemony.

The participants analysed the social and political factors that led to the suppression of critical consciousness, spirit of collective struggle, depletion of pluralist and egalitarian indigenous cultural narrative and political disempowerment of the people in the Pashtun land.

The participants agreed on the need for consistent critical and political education, networking among various organisations working for enlightened narrative and progressive nationalism and use of modern technology for permeation of counter extremist narrative.

Text for the next study has been decide to be 'Alternative narrative in the light of "Zan Zani Khamar" by Bahauddin Majrooh.

The next study circle was decided to be held on 3rd June 2017.
