Seminar on Management Skills and Mobilization for Community Support was held at Baacha Khan Trust Educational Foundation (BKTEF) Directorate on May 5th, 2015. The seminar was attended by all principals, senior teachers and student counselors of Baacha Khan Schools. Dr. Khadim Husain, Managing Director BKTEF, Department of Schools Management, Coordination officer, Head of Field Department and Media Department also participated in the seminar. A total number of 30 participants attended the seminar.

The seminar started with brief introduction of the BKTEF Staff and participants. The basic theme of the seminar was laid down. The following themes were discussed in detail:

The session ended with the tea break.

After tea break, the session started with detail conversation with principles and senior teachers on the themes. The first component of the theme what are we doing was discussed. Dr. Khadim Hussain explained the Critical Model of Education in detail. The four basic parts of critical model of education Critical Thinking, Multiple Skills Development, Civic Sense and Aesthetic Sense were explained to the participants. The Critical Model of Education for Baacha Khan Schools measures used to implement the critical model of education were discussed in detail. The Academics of schools, formulation of time table, lesson plans and how documentation is done was discussed in detail with principles and School Management Department. Dr. Khadim Hussain explained the process of formulation of the time table. He said it should be made with the consent of the whole staff with the open choice for teachers for the selection of subjects they would be teaching. Teachers should choose subjects on the basis of qualification and interest in the subject. Dr. Khadim Hussain also said teachers should not be put into burden with more than three consecutive classes. Lesson planning is, another very important aspect, was discussed with principals and senior teachers. Demos were done on different topics for lesson by different teachers of the schools. The importance of activity based learning was accepted by participants to be made compulsory to be part of lesson plans. Also critical questioning should be part of lesson plans. Dr. Khadim Hussain asked principals to check the lesson plans of each teacher on Friday of every week. A very important aspect, Documentation, was also discussed. There are two types of documentation internal and external. All the internal documentation should be up to date. The internal documentation includes Teachers files and Students Personal files. The external documentation is what schools communicate to Directorate. The external documentation is of five kinds.

The session ended with the lunch break.

After lunch break, how to mobilize Community was discussed in detail with the participants. Participants were asked why community support is required. Dr. khadim explained community support is required for sustainability. For community support, the established Community Education Committees (CECs) are responsible for new admissions in schools, checking absenteeism, checking drop outs and helping in security. CEC should at least have maximum 15 members in which women and youth partipcation is also important. Every CEC should have at least five women members and three youth members.

Community support is either finical support or moral. The CEC for each school is to run donation campaign for the next upcoming four months. For the donation campaign, the principals are required to hold four exhibitions in one year. Principals are required to prepare the following for running successful donation campaign:

Lists of corporate organizations in the area

Lists of staff members

Parents

Lists of Social Organizations

The principals and CEC together need to make sure the following:

Holding exhibitions

Meetings with district Zakat Committees

Person to Person Contact

In the end participants were asked to give reflection. The session ended with vote of thanks.
